Kodak Challenge Employee Golf Tournament
This blog is an update on the OCTO organization activities to celebrate and promote the 2009 Kodak Challenge. The last blog focused on a Putting Challenge event; this one is about the grand finale - the OCTO Invitational Golf tournament.

On Friday August 14, over 95 members of the organization, friends, family members, and colleagues gathered for the annual golf tournament using a scramble format. The big change this year was the inclusion of several Kodak Challenge elements to promote the year-long event on the PGA Tour. There was an increase of 33% in number of players since the 2008 event. So, "something" sparked more interest.
Many team and individual prizes as well as raffle prizes were awarded. To promote the Kodak Challenge, several holes on the course were designated as "challenge" holes. Just like the PGA Tour event, the low score over these holes won a special prize. In this case it was a team event and each member of the team won the same prize. There were also Kodak Challenge quiz questions that presented the opportunity to win Kodak Challenge prizes.
During play, two leader board signs were maintained to show players how well the challenge holes were being played. This added some additional excitement. The overall winners had a score of 63 (-9) for the 18 holes and the "Challenge" winners had a score of 22 (-3) for the designated 6 holes. The big surprise was the winning score for low number of team putts - a score of 12. This team had a strategy to focus on the number of putts rather than score; they often chose a ball location off of the green rather than one already on.
Many signs, posters, banners as well as other communication vehicles spread the word of the Kodak Challenge with the logo and other information to inform the target audience more about the PGA Tour event. Before play, each participant received a welcome bag with various information and items of need for the day. This also included several bits of information describing the details of the Kodak Challenge - something that they might need during the quiz (previously mentioned) after the round.
The weather, play, food were all great and everybody had a fun time. Some of the pictures for the day and event are included here.

Welcome to a beautiful day!

Tournament preparation and last minute practice.

Ready to play.

Challenge holes are in ply for this event as well -- a simulated Kodak Challenge event.

Kodak Employee Putting Challenge
This post is about recent activities within the OCTO (Office of the Chief Technology Officer) organization of Kodak to recognize and promote the Kodak Challenge. The organization is made up of several hundred employees that work at various locations within Rochester, NY as well other locations around the world. This post focuses on the Rochester employees.
The golf tournament planning team earlier this year decided to align with the Kodak Challenge and add more fun and excitement for employees. The showing of a golf film earlier in the year kicked off the season and announced the golf tournament. A recent Putting Challenge kicked off registration for the golf tournament - more information will be shared about the tournament after the event in August.

An event almost did not occur due to obstacles beyond the team's control. However, the team re-focused and with additional help was able to hold an extremely successful event. Over 95 people participated during a lunch time event in a large room adjacent to the cafeteria. Many of the participants never touched a golf club before. The event generated so much talk within the organization that an additional event is being planned for another location within Rochester.
A three-hole mini golf layout was available for each player participant's enjoyment. Prizes were given out for high and low scores as well as many raffle prizes.
Everything had a Kodak Challenge theme from score cards to a scoring leader board, to rules, posters, and more.
Each participant received a score card like the one shown here.

The following is an example of the scoring leader board used during the event. This leader board kept participant's interest about who was winning and who beat whom.

The following are some of the pictures from the recent Putting Challenge event...

Yes - there were water and sand hazards as well. These added to the challenge and fun. Two members of the organization enjoyed watching the players use the putting holes that they made based on a designs they found in an old issue of Popular Mechanics (June 1950).

Special thanks goes out to the event planning team including the golf hole architects and designers as well as all that is made it possible. Stay tuned for information on our golf tournament which will feature "challenge" holes.
